Lee Moo-Sik

Abstract
Background & Purpose : It is not well known that the type of personality is related with preventive health behavior. This study was done in order to investigate the effect of personality pattern on the preventive health behavior related with likelihood of taking Pap smear for cervical cancer.

Materials & Methods : this study was done in the selected 13 villages in Koryung and Kimchun County of Kyungbuk province. The subjects were 431 resident women over 20 years old. The questionnaires of interview included personality, sociodemographic, and perceived benefit and barrier to undergo Pap smear. Model of this study was based on health belief model. The data was interpreted by frequency analysis, chi-square test, and logistic regression analysis.

Results : Knowledge and perceived benefit of Pap smear for cervical cancer, the score of cue to action of Pap smear was indentified significant related variables with the type of personality, but the score of barrier of Pap smear was not significant related variable with the type of personality in univariate analysis. Major predictors of undergo Pap smear on multiple logistic regression analysis by forward conditional method were the score of barrier and the score of cue to action, but the type of personality was not included in final regression model.

But it may be considered that the type of personality is more related with socio-psychological factor indirectly or previously than the type of personality is related with preventive health behavior as independently.
